Welcome to AccessOMFS! At first, I was very hesitant to create this site because, as an OMFS applicant, I didn’t want any content to ever influence my application. Disclaimer: Yes, I am a current dental student (current resident). So please, take everything with a grain of salt. I by no means know, or claim to know, everything that there is to know about applying to OMFS, taking the CBSE, or individual programs. I chose to build this site for a couple of reasons. The first is that the information that I have put together to help with my OMFS application and search could be used by anyone interested in oral surgery. Even though the AAOMS website and SDN help paint a picture of the application process, I feel that I was having a difficult time finding centralized information about programs (number of positions, program type, etc) and applying in general without spending tons of time combing through individual program websites. So, I put together a site that made available the information that I had put together or found. Hopefully, it will save time for others in their OMFS search. The second reason I wanted to build this site was for fun. I enjoy building web sites and technology in general. I plan on using this site as an outlet for building those skills. Also, my writing is generally not that great (apologies in advance), and I felt I could use this as an opportunity for personal development.
My goal for AccessOMFS is to organize all of the bits of information required to apply to residency and make it available to anyone interested. In short, it is an outline of the path I’ve taken and the research I’ve done to help make sense of all the chaos and anecdotal information. I hope you enjoy it and find the information useful. It would be great if this were something that could be continuously developed and refined from others’ input so that it would make an already hard path a little easier for the hundreds of applicants each year.
